Depending on where you stand in relation to the technology adoption lifecycle, tagging is either old news or a recent discovery. Regardless of where you’re at, a new PEW report on tagging has confirmed that tagging is on the rise among mainstream internet users. It’s a great overview for students, teachers and anybody interested in some concrete examples of tagging and bookmarking in action.

Tagcrowd - is a fun way and easy tool that allows you to create a tag cloud (and post it to a website) from the contents of a website or uploaded document. I know of one professor who uploaded a digital edition of Homer’s Odyssey! This is a good example of the WHERE of social bookmarking.

By far, the best known social bookmarking tool for tagging is delicious. Here’s my delicious account (also displayed on my left hand sidebar as bookmarks and tags).
